Many families believed to be below poverty line: minister
More families in provinces across the country are believed to have fallen below the poverty line as a result of this year’s floods – the worst in decades – a minister has told the cabinet.
An initial report on progress made in poverty reduction indicated that the number of families officially classified as poor fell from 76,318 in 2016 to 64,593 in 2018, or from 6.53 to 5.34 percent of the total number of families, Dr Lien Thikeo told the cabinet’s monthly meeting last week.
